Klaus Oxdal Red Hat Nordics / Gluster Community Info

c1e1c27b-a864-475c-94fa-97c5a553ff2cThis weeks podcast is with Klaus Oxdal of Red Hat Nordics. Klaus is a good friend of mine who I’ve worked closely with for 3 1/2 years or so and he eats lives and breathes Red Hat. Much like my erstwhile American/Dutch TechGod colleague Eric Schabell he is one of the Red Hat EMEA cyclists spending a lot of time in Red Hat colours on the roads of Denmark.

Only this time he’s going one better. Klaus is part of a team cycling from Denmark to Paris, France culminating in a sprint finish to the Eiffel Tower. It’s all for a good event it’s for a Children’s Cancer Charity. It’s a mammoth distance, it’s a mammoth effort and I thought we’d tag onto the end of our conversation an invitation for people to find whatever they could afford to make a difference in treating childhood cancers. An amazing cause that deserves our support. I’ve stumped up cash as a parent of two children and I’d like to think we can help raise them some funds.

john_RMGluster.org Community Workshop and London Community Day

In the podcast I also talk about Gluster.org the upstream of Red Hat Storage having a workshop at LinuxCon Europe (where I will be attending and doing the show podcast) and speaking with the likes of my shadow and compadre from Gluster.org / Red Hat John Mark Walker pictured with me above. The day is WELL WORTH ATTENDING if you’re going to LinuxCon or even if you’re not.

The workshop starts at a very reasonable 10 a.m. This full-day, free workshop includes talks on using Gluster with OpenStack, KVM/QEMU, and how to develop apps to integrate with GlusterFS. This is a chance for developers and admins to learn first-hand what GlusterFS and related open software-defined storage projects in the Gluster Community can accomplish in cloud and virtualized environments.

  • State of Gluster (John Mark Walker)
  • Gluster for SysAdmins, an In-depth Look (Dustin Black)
  • Gluster and OpenStack, a Case Study (Udo Seidel)
  • Gluster, QEMU and KVM (Vijay Bellur)
  • Developing Apps and Integrating with GlusterFS (Justin Clift)

Please join us on October 24th at the Sheraton next to the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. Registration for the Gluster Workshop is free, sign up today on the LinuxCon/CloudOpen sign-up page. Note: Choose the “Speaker” registration and use the code GLUSEU13 if you’re not registering / registered for the rest of the conference.

Podcast: Cloud Security Special

Todays podcast is a must for anyone in Cloud who needs to understand high level security. I’m joined over the ether to my studio in Bath in the UK by Gunnar Hellekson and David Egts. We’re talking access controls, SELinux, sVirt, hardening, security in Government and how we engage in Cloud, security and KVM, Common Criteria – the whole works.

We talk RHEV, RHEL, OpenShift, CloudForms, ManageIQ, auditing, logging, hardening, security – learn how Red Hat secure the important enterprise, Government and industry platforms – allowing our customers to sleep easy.

You cannot afford to miss this weeks show !

Gunnar is the Chief Technology Strategist in Red Hat’s US Public Sector team, trusted by government and the military alike and David is one of our Principal Architects at Red Hat. They both “live eat breathe” security so this podcast is three of us who are very passionate about the topic.

And folks theres more, if you liked this podcast tune in to the first few episodes of Dave and Gunnar’s new podcast – the appropriately named Dave and Gunnar show which you can listen to by following this link directly. I totally recommend it, great listening. I’ve been working with them over the last few months recommending kit and I really think this is a show you should be listening to on a regular basis. Gunnar and Dave have taken a totally different spin on podcasting that Rhys Oxenham and I have been planning since November to do monthly that I bought the kit to do – but we haven’t had the time to do. Since Christmas we’ve been set up to make the changes I keep mooting, and this will happen.

It’s so nice to be back in the studio able to control the level of audio again, seems like an age since I was sat at a mixing desk recording this stuff. Listening to this podcast you wouldn’t think that David was in Ohio, Gunnar in Houston, Texas and me the other side of the pond, and all recorded produced and released using Fedora – no Mac’s here folks.

Come back soon for some great podcast content and if you haven’t yet subscribed via iTunes or my RSS feed simply follow the menu bar above to get the links you need. Come back next week for some more great content.

Podcast – Frederik Bijlsma talks Cloud

I’ve been in Frankfurt, Germany this week with my colleague Frederik Bijlsma working on projects and plans, it therefore gave me a chance to take a mobile recording rig with me and to record a podcast. This is what fell out of that recording session.

We talk Open Hybrid Cloud, approaches to Cloud adoption design and deployment, exploring the Red Hat value proposition and avoiding vendor lock in. We talk about how to engage and to look at the key areas that benefit from Cloud planning, PaaS and IaaS. ManageIQ, CloudForms, OpenShift and also the interconnects to all layers of Cloud management.

Next week you’re spoilt, two podcasts one recorded with James Strachan talking FuseSource, recently acquired by Red Hat and another with Ross Lawley of 10gen talking NoSQL goodness.

Podcast: John Hardy talks ManageIQ

After being disrupted by the snowstorms in the UK John and I finally met up and recorded this podcast at the Red Hat offices in Farnborough here in the UK. This is what fell out of that session, hope it’s helpful and gives more context technical details around what ManageIQ brings to Red Hat.

It’s already available on Apple iTunes (download the Podcast client from the Apple Store), Podfeed.net and will be synced with Stitcher Internet Radio very shortly as they update their RSS feeds.

Come back more next week I’m going to be releasing a podcast on Wednesday / Thursday this week and then recording a lot of content at FOSDEM in Brussels weekend of 2nd/3rd February. If you’re going come say hi – who knows you could end up on a podcast !

Podcast – Tom talks Storage

Don’t say I never deliver the goods – here is a podcast talking Red Hat Storage with Tom Llewelyn from Red Hat EMEA who runs the business development side of the business.

Tom is a really good guy, solid and knows his stuff, he brought me back into Red Hat a few years back and he’s everything you could want from a consultant and knows the business backwards. If you want someone to explain the value prop or to understand technology impact on your business he’s the guy whose door you knock.

Tomorrow I am going to be recording and delivering a podcast on the ManageIQ acquisition and what it means to be part of the most exciting story in Hybrid Cloud as part of Red Hat’s technology team.

Podcast: Cliff Perry talks Satellite

Cliff PerryAs we head into the festive period this is the first of a series of podcasts going live. Cliff Perry is my guest today, we recorded this in Cardiff a few weeks ago and it’s well worth a listen.

Consistency of platform and architecture in Cloud is critical and at Red Hat we have built a reputation around Red Hat Satellite and the sponsorship and mentoring of the upstream Spacewalk project. Cliff is the chief cat herder or project manager for both and is passionate about his chosen topic.

Coming Friday another podcast this time talking Red Hat Storage with Tom Llewelyn. Remember we are syndicated now on iTunes, Stitcher Internet Radio and Podfeed so you don’t need to download, just subscribe using your client of choice.
